VS Stone Island 49154B49 X 47154H49

Just picked up the Stone Island 49154B49, and now have a new favorite daily jacket, replacing my previous favorite, the AW’07 4H49. Click below to see how the two compare.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
The AW’07 4H49 has been my favorite daily jacket for a while now. But always had issues with it just being too short. The 4B49, based on the N-3B, it has the longer length that the 4H49 needed, while still keeping the nice look the 4H49 had with its collar.
Both are color code 0054 but the 4B49 is more of a greenish tint vs the brown of the 4H49 which I also thought was a bit nicer. One thing to note on the 4B49 sizing, is that it is really small in the chest. The size M was actually a bit too tight to wear with winter sweater underneath.

ROUND 1: HOODS DOWN
The 4H49’s hood is one of my favorite of all the Stone Island hood designs when worn down. The marina stripe detail and the lip of the hood makes it look more like a collar and doesn’t even look like you have a hood from the front.
On the other hand, the 4B49 suffers from bad fitting on the collar of the inner lining and is actually very uncomfortable around the neck. I just remove the lining whenever I wear it.

ROUND 2: HOODS UP
The snorkel hood, and flat top of the 4B49 makes it the winner when hoods are worn up. The 4H49 has a pointed hood that makes you look a bit like Gandalf.

Left: 49154B49-pocket flap can be tucked away for a cleaner look.
ROUND 3: Pockets
When it comes the pockets the 4B49 takes this round. The slant chest pockets, and being able to hide or show the flaps of the side pocket gives this round to the 4B49. The small ammo style chest pockets of the 4H49, in my opinion just seemed too small.

ROUND 4: DESIGN FLAWS
With both jackets there are some design flaws which really detract from these two great jackets. The 4B49 fastens with pretty flimsy elastic, and I can already imagine it breaking after a season of opening and closing. And the inner liner really fits terrible around the neck.
The 4H49 liner fastens to the jacket with a hybrid dutch rope and button combination. The placement of the back buttons is right in the center of your back and the buttons and extra fabric can be be very uncomfortable.

Great comparison Gene.4h49 is also my favourite everyday coat but it looks like the 4b49 may need to be purchased. If any1 can source me one let me know. Thanks
how does this seasons 4h49 compare though??
and i have 47154H49 - in black.
Awesome!
Well done Gene,
the 4b49 looks nice indeed, I also think the 4H49 was too short but what I can’t get myself to like is the asimmetric fastening with the loops, I am also more a fan of buttoned pockets as opposed to zipped ones so basically I think you should mix the 2 jackets to have the perfect one but hey, doesn’t this happen a lot with Stone Island?
Just picked up the 47154H49 in black, well impressed its a cracking jacket!
These are my favorite SI jackets, great review and photos Gene, thanks… Will be looking to pick up a 4B49 in the sales hopefully….
I have the 47154H49 (Brown) I carry the second year )))
Saw a 4B49 in blue at the Four Marking sample sale on saturday, not too impressed and still prefer the 4H49, which would be the perfect everyday winter jacket if it was MII and had the adjustable round hood on the 4B49 and a Lampo zip!.
Love both of these jackets, but I’d buy a green or black 4B49 in a heartbeat.
