1940’s US Navy Pullover Jackets

WWII Naval fashion unfortunately gets a bad wrap. The image of sailors with bib shirts and dinky hats usually comes to mind. But like the army the navy had some really interesting designs. One of my favorite type of jackets from this period are the USN Navy pullovers. Click below to see more images.

I am a pretty big fan of pullover or anorak style jackets. And just love the functional details of these, especially the storm flap and hood face adjusters.

Used as part of a chemical warfare suit, the hood was completely adjustable so it could fit tightly around the gas mask.

During 1940’s the USN also produced many standard issue pieces in denim since it was was both inexpensive and durable. And are pretty rare to find.

Although over 60 years old, the design still looks like some thing designed today. I would love to see a Stone Island produced one in the COMPACT fabric.
